Duties & landed costs

Why is a duty estimate different from the final landed cost?

TradeClear · Editorial & source check ·

The short answer

Duty is one component. Separate goods value, freight, insurance, applicable taxes, clearance and destination charges. Record the trade terms and estimate date; missing destination or origin details should remain visible as uncertainties.

What to do next

  1. Confirm the product, destination, origin, currency and trade terms.
  2. Mark each quoted charge as included, excluded or unconfirmed to avoid double counting.
  3. Keep rate sources and dates; reconcile against applicable tariffs, declarations and service invoices.

Sources & scope

Sources explain background concepts; checklists are TradeClear editorial suggestions. This is not a classification ruling, tax opinion or release commitment for a shipment. Check current destination rules.
